Looking Ahead to the Rio Olympics

Looking Ahead to the Rio Olympics

Feb 8th 2017

The Games are upon us, teams have been selected, and rosters fleshed out. Athletes are making their final preparations to compete in Rio for the XXXI Olympiad! Here’s the Rio 2016 Olympics® water polo schedule, and some other useful information you should know:

  • The water polo portion of the games will take place at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium and Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre during August 6th thru August 20th.
  • American's Tony Azevedo and Kami Craig are leading their respective teams in Olympic experience. Tony is attending his fifth Olympic Games while Kami is competing in her third.
  • The women’s tournament joined the Games at Sydney 2000. The Americans always climb to the podium, an achievement nearly matched by the Australians, who were absent only at Athens 2004.
  • Hungarian Olivér Halassy suffered a car accident when he was a child and had his left foot amputated. It did not stop him from winning three Olympic medals: silver at Amsterdam 1928, and gold at Los Angeles 1932 and at Berlin 1936
